The technologies of projection and its creative possibilities have mainly been used by Vjs and Videoartists. For more than 20 years they have been working with classical videoprojection in clubs, galleries and at corporate entertainment events.

There have already been Vjs who worked with projection in the urban surroundings, but normally these projects were only possible with adequate sponsors or a huge budget. Now, less expensive prices make projectors affordable for the general public, while their decreasing sizes allow a mobile use.

An artform which is mainly found in public space is streetart. Stickers, Cutouts, modified Billboards, Graffitti, Sculptures and Installations are different ways of expression within this versatile artform. You can already see how people start using the possibilities of mobile projection as a new tool to show their different ideas.

The use of projectors differs from the classical streetart in two aspects. On the one hand it provides the possibility to show moving pictures, on the other hand the work, similar to a performance, is only shown at the actual moment of projection (until there are stickers with moving pictures on it).

In contrast to Graffitti, the legal consequences of doing Streetart are not well defined by Law. Stickers, for example, do not cause a permanent and irreversible damage to the attached surface. As projection doesn`t cause any changes to the projected background, it will be interesting to see how law reacts if its technologies are used intensively.
